Pakistani media reported two separate military operations by the country’s army against armed groups in the turbulent regions of Balochistan and North Waziristan, resulting in the deaths of 12 militants.
The Dawn newspaper, citing Pakistan’s army, reported that militant hideouts in the “Kech” area of Balochistan province and the “Miranshah” area of North Waziristan were targeted.
According to the Pakistani military’s statement, four terrorists were killed in the first strike in Kech, a region in southwestern Balochistan, which has been experiencing unrest.
The Pakistani army conducted these operations just days after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive at the Quetta railway station, the capital of Balochistan, killing 26 people.
In a separate statement, the Pakistani army announced that on Wednesday morning, they attacked a hideout of Pakistani Taliban (TTP) militants in North Waziristan, resulting in the death of eight militants and injuries to six others.
The recent military operations highlight the escalating tensions and security challenges in Pakistan, especially in regions like Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant activities by groups such as the TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) and BLA (Baloch Liberation Army) are on the rise. These groups have been involved in numerous attacks, targeting Pakistani forces and foreign nationals.
The escalating violence has also had a significant impact on major infrastructure projects funded by China, especially in Balochistan. Chinese nationals and investments have increasingly become targets, raising concerns about the security of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other development projects vital to the country progress.
As militant groups intensify their activities, the Pakistani government faces mounting pressure to enhance its counter-terrorism measures and secure critical projects and foreign investments.
