Tottenham Hotspur fell to defeat against lowly Ipswich Town this afternoon, and Ange Postecoglou has pinpointed exactly where his team went wrong.
Spurs went into the game against Ipswich with the Tractor Boys the only team in the Premier League yet to win a game. As such, many had expected that Ange Postecoglou’s side would secure a win, especially at home.
That wasn’t to be, though, and the Lilywhites have once again failed to beat a team struggling at the foot of the table, and once again go into the international break on the back of a defeat.
First-half goals from Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap gave Ipswich the advantage heading into the break as Spurs looked disorganised and disinterested at the back.
A second-half header from Rodrigo Bentancur gave the home side hope of a revival, but Tottenham couldn’t find a breakthrough, and spurned a number of good opportunities in front of goal.
Speaking to the press after the game (via Football.London), Postecoglou commented on his side’s lacklustre display and explained the reasons behind the defeat.
He said: “We didn’t start the game well at all. It was all sort of passive, without the ball, with the ball. I felt we didn’t get the tempo right or intensity right and then we gave ourselves a mountain to climb. Second half we were in the ascendancy and had opportunities obviously but we didn’t do enough with them.”
It is getting incredibly frustrating to see Tottenham come up against teams they should be comfortably beating, and finding themselves coming off second-best time and time again.
I don’t know what the problem is exactly — whether it be complacency or a lack of motivation — but something has to be done to fix this as soon as possible, as I am really starting to doubt the mentality of some of these Tottenham players.
