NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Sunday starts with more sunshine and highs expected around 60, but wet weather will hit the tri-state area by the afternoon.
Air quality is an issue with an AQI above 100 on Sunday afternoon, caused by smoke from wildfires and drought. However, New York and New Jersey will get some much-needed rain with a low-pressure system arriving this afternoon.
This will snap the dryness and finally bring some measurable rain to the area area. These showers will likely linger into Monday morning but will clear out by the afternoon, making way for sunshine and warmer temperatures in the mid to upper-60s.
Tuesday, behind a cold front, will bring cooler and more seasonable temperatures in the mid-50s. There will again be lots of sun to go along with it.
Wednesday is even colder, with a morning wind chill in the mid-20s, and a high expected to be in the upper-40s. A shower chance is in the forecast for Thursday before the sun returns on Friday — highs rallying back to the mid-50s.
