Teen, 16, killed in fatal late night hit-and-run in Co Kildare as Gardai appeal after vehicle flees scene
A TEENAGER has died following a horror hit-and-run in Co Kildare.
The fatal incident happened on the R403 in Blackwood near Robertstown in the early hours of this morning around 12.30am.
Gardai said the vehicle involved in the crash failed to remain at the scene.
The male was fatally injured as a result of the collision and his body was taken to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital.
Cops have confirmed the R403 in Blackwood is currently closed between Graiges Cross and Dagwelds Cross.
A forensic examination of the scene will be carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
There are local diversions are in place and investigations are ongoing.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run road traffic collision that occurred in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 10th November 2024 in Robertstown, County Kildare.
“The collision, which involved a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred on the R403 in Blackwood near Robertstown, County Kildare at approximately 12.30am.
“The vehicle involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene.
“The male pedestrian (16 years) was fatally injured as a result of the collision.
“His body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital.
“The R403 in Blackwood is currently closed (between Graiges Cross and Dagwelds Cross) pending a forensic examination of the scene of Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.”
Gardai are asking any witness or road users with camera footage to make contact with them.
They can contact Naas Garda Station on 045 884 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
The garda spokesperson added: “Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Blackwood and Robertstown at the time of the collision and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to contact Gardaí.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Naas Garda Station on 045 884 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
