[HOMESTRETCH] Dragon heart: The story of the Siargao dragon boat team
PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan – With two paddles and no boat, the Siargao Dragons started training on the shores of Santa Fe in June 2023. The first 14 people recruited by Coach Alvin Bobadilla were a mix of island-born surfers, fishermen, and fitness trainers.
Soon, foreigners living on the island joined the team, captivated by the island, the sea, and the people. After four months, they competed in the 2nd Puerto Princesa International Dragon Boat Festival and won the overall championship.
In this episode, HOMESTRETCH follows the Siargao Dragons as they defend their title in a competition in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Coach Alvin Bobadilla talks about the team’s journey while members share how they found their way into dragon boat racing.
