DEAR DEIDRE: MY girlfriend is passionate and opinionated, which I love. I’ve never wanted a pushover for a partner.
But lately I’ve found her too much.
It feels like we are so often at loggerheads and unless I give into her she gets nasty or has a strop. We are both 29.
She is particularly volatile when she’s been drinking.
Last night we went out, but because I didn’t want to go to karaoke she started calling me a loser.
When I walked away, telling her she needed to sober up, she whacked me on the head.
Every problem gets a personal reply, usually within 24 hours weekdays.

DEIDRE SAYS: It does sound like her drinking may be getting out of control and affecting her behaviour.
When she is sober, talk to her about how upset you are feeling.
Tell her that you won’t tolerate her aggressive, abusive behaviour.
She needs to cut back on her drinking and get help with her anger.
Otherwise you will have to walk. My packs Managing Anger and Abusive Partner? will help.
