Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown reveals what he has heard about the growing interest in Spurs target Antoine Semenyo at the start of the season.
While Tottenham fans will understandably feel that Dejan Kulusevski is the most improved player in the Premier League, one can argue that the accolade should go to Semenyo.
The winger has taken his game to another level this season, with Premier League defences struggling to contain him.
The 24-year-old’s displays at the Vitality Stadium have allegedly caught Tottenham’s eye, with many outlets reporting over recent weeks that the Lilywhites are plotting a move for the wide man (GiveMeSport).
Tottenham are not the only club Semenyo has been linked with as several outlets have suggested recently that the Lilywhites may face competition from the likes of Liverpool (Sky Sports News) and Newcastle United (TBR Football) for the attacker.
Brown believes that there is truth to these reports, revealing that he has heard that a number of big clubs are circling over the Cherries star.
The former Spurs scout told Football Insider about Semenyo’s future: “Performances like that one against City will always inspire interest. He’s gone above the level I ever expected him to hit when I first watched him at Newport. Now, he’s proving he can be effective against the best sides in the country.
“I know there are a lot of clubs, including some of the top clubs, who are interested in him. I’m told they’ve been tracking his progress very closely. Bournemouth will be expecting offers for him in January and probably going into the next transfer window as well if he keeps up his form.
“He’s one of these players where he’s very strong and quick, but he’s got great feet and he’s now proving he’s dangerous in the box. He’s also got a determination about him which counts for a lot at this level.
“I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see one of the big Premier League clubs make a move for him in January, particularly the ones who have been looking at wingers.”
Several factors make Semenyo a great fit for Postecoglou‘s system, not least his direct style and his work out of possession.
Additionally, the Bournemouth star is comfortable on the right flank, which is ideally what Tottenham need, with Brennan Johnson lacking competition for his place in the side since Dejan Kulusevski was shifted to the central role.
With Heung-min Son, Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner and Richarlision, Spurs are well covered when it comes to the left-wing role.
