The exciting build up to the start of the WBSC Premier12 2024 presented by RAXUS took another significant step on Wednesday with the inauguration of the Coloso del Pacifico stadium in Tepic, Nayarit, one of the two venues in Mexico for Group A play, which starts on Saturday.
“This stadium is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together with a common goal,” said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari who was a special guest at the opening ceremony along with Miguel Angel Navarro Quintero; Governor of Nayarit; and Rommel Pacheco, National Sports Commission Director and four-time Olympian diver and LOC President Guillermo Morales.
The new stadium, jointly funded by the Mexican Federal Government and the Nayarit State Government, seats 9,480 spectators across six different zones, 10 suites, a 94-seat presidential suite and space for 20 wheelchairs. The ballpark counts with all the facilities to provide fans the best experience, including three restaurants, 31 concessions and four stores.
The field of play meets all requirements to host world-class international events. The brand new turf is 45 mm high with a density of 1600 g/m2. The modern lightning system highlights 1500 luxes in the infield and 1000 in the outfield, guaranteeing the highest standards for players, fans and broadcast partners. The venue also offers first-class facilities for the teams, with underneath batting cages, modern clubhouses for 35 players, bullpens and dugouts.
The Mexican National Baseball Team took the field against a Cuban selection, getting a good win to warm up for the Premier12 third edition.
The Coloso del Pacifico ballpark will host Game 2 of the WBSC Premier12 presented by RAXUS on Saturday, with USA taking on Puerto Rico. First pitch is scheduled at 4pm.
