Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly working to add a midfielder to their squad in January, but they have received some bad news regarding one of their top transfer targets.
Ange Postecoglou has experimented with different combinations of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Pape Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma in the middle of the park so far this season.
Archie Gray has not got a look-in in midfield while Lucas Bergvall has also been sparingly used in the Premier League.
It turns out that Postecoglou has now decided to bolster that area of the pitch with another addition in January.
This information comes from Football Insider, who say that even though Ange Postecoglou has been satisfied with his experiment of trying both Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison together in midfield, he wants to add another number eight to his squad.
One man who has reportedly caught Spurs’ eye is AC Milan star Tijjani Reijnders but, the Lilywhites have allegedly found out that a January deal for the Dutchman is ‘highly unlikely’.
They would have to wait until next summer to get the Netherlands international, which is why they are thought to be looking at other alternatives for January.
Despite what this report from Football Insider says, a midfielder might not necessarily be at the top of Postecoglou’s wishlist for January.
With Kulusevski having moved to a central role, the Spurs boss might want to sign another winger to compete with Brennan Johnson for the right-wing spot.
He might also prioritise additions at the back as Tottenham are not particularly well stocked at left-back and central defence.
