News and Notes for Wednesday, October 6th, 2024
I was waiting to see if we’d have any news today and we do!
Catcher Austin Hedges and the Cleveland Guardians are in agreement on a one-year contract, sources tell ESPN. He’ll return to the Guardians as a backup for Bo Naylor.

The Guardians have signed a free agent.
I know there are Hedges’ detractors everywhere, but when the entire team is telling you that he’s an invaluable presence in the clubhouse, I can’t help but see this as a win. IF they are committed to keeping him at around 150-200 at most plate appearances for the year AND making sure they add another catcher (Kody Huff, Cooper Ingle?) to the roster before the playoffs so we never have to see Hedges bat in the playoffs again (if the Guardians make it, of course).
Hedges had 5 Defensive Runs Saved and 7.7 Framing Runs Above Average in around 400 innings last season. He also held a bat in his hands 150ish times.
Welcome back, Hedgey. Let’s see if you can help us get that title this time.
