One key player for Tottenham Hotspur had to leave the field against Aston Villa at the weekend with a suspected injury, but he has still been handed a call-up for his country ahead of the upcoming international break.
Cristian Romero lasted just over an hour of the win over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, before he was replaced by Ben Davies.
After the game, Ange Postecoglou confirmed Romero had suffered some kind of injury in his foot after a challenge, and had asked to come off due to soreness (Football.London).
According to TyC Sports, the defender has a possible bone injury in his foot, with the outlook not looking positive for Romero heading into the international break.
Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, it is the ligaments in Romero’s right toe that have been affected, which is not as serious, and there was hope he could still be included in Argentina’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Well, it seems that may well have been true, as Romero has indeed been named in Argentina’s latest squad for that doubleheader.
Lionel Scaloni has selected 28 players for the games against Paraguay on November 14, and Peru on November 20.
Romero is joined by former Spurs man, Giovani Lo Celso, Aston Villa keeper Emi Martinez, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, and Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.
It remains to be seen whether Romero will be able to actually play a part in the fixtures.
This call-up is surely a good sign that Romero’s issue is not as bad as we first feared. I would imagine he could play a part in the game against Peru at least, which is good news for Spurs as he could and should be back straight after the break.
