If you want a salad that’s “colorful, visually appealing, and really crunchy and fresh” — because of course you do! — then Ree Drummond (aka, The Pioneer Woman) is your girl. She just shared her own version of a traditional cabbage salad that has our mouth’s watering, and it would make the perfect addition to your next holiday family get-together.
Drummond’s Napa Cabbage Salad has “a couple little spins on the old classic” salad that many of our grandmas used to make. (Not that there is anything wrong with Nana’s recipe!) Drummond gives her own take on this beloved dish in a video on the Food Network YouTube Channel. She starts with a package of Ramon noodles for the topping. After breaking them up into smaller pieces, she adds sesame seeds and other ingredients, topped with melted butter and honey, and stirs everything together. From there, she bakes it to a golden brown while preparing the rest of the salad.
Shaved Napa cabbage, veggies like red peppers and shredded carrots, and more go into this colorful dish. From there, toss the salad and drizzle Drummond’s homemade dressing (made with olive oil, rice vinegar, and more) or your own favorite oil or dressing on top. The previously baked crunchy noodle topping goes on last, right before serving.
“It’s crunchy, it’s tasty, it’s a little bit retro, and it has stood the test of time for a reason!” she adds.
People were practically drooling over this salad in the comments. “That salad looks delicious, and being that the peppers are sweet I’m all in, I can’t wait to make this and the topping for it. OMG!????????☺️” one person commented. Another wrote, “This is going into the dinner notebook.”
Drummond loves incorporating nostalgia and uniqueness into her recipes. Like when she made her version of Oatmeal Cream Pies, a childhood favorite snack that she called “just like the original, but even better!” With a track record like that, we know this cabbage salad will be good too.
