As the voice of the Boston Bruins, Jack Edwards made some iconic calls, such as “This building is vibrating” or “The Bruins showing hearts of lions,” among many others.
Bruins legend Patrice Bergeron shared his favorite call from the equally legendary broadcaster.
“2013, Game 7, against Toronto in the first round. The overtime goal,” Bergeron told NESN. “That’s definitely one I’ll remember the most. Pretty impressive improv. I don’t know how he came up with that. But, it was something I will never forget from him.”
The franchise’s all-time winningest goaltender Tuukka Rask agreed with his former teammate that his favorite game call was the 2013 overtime win, but Edwards did coin a special tribute to the netminder.
“I think the favorite call is pretty easy,” Rask told NESN. “The ‘Two Us, two Ks, two points.’ People still come up to me and reference that.”
Edwards and his longtime Bruins broadcasting partner Andy Brickley had a friendship that went beyond being “High above the ice” at TD Garden or on the road. Brickley shared his favorite memory of Edwards, which dates back 13 years.
“What I will cherish is what I witnessed on the duck boat. Stanley Cup parade June 2011,” Brickley said. “Just watching you and that look on your face of total fulfillment, of pure emotional joy of a dream come true, and then on top of that the outpouring of affection, appreciation, and thanks that the Bruins fans expressed directly to you. That was something unique. That was something special. And it’s forever, forever etched in my mind.”
The Bruins and NESN will celebrate Edwards throughout the Black and Gold’s game against the Seattle Kraken at TD Garden on Sunday evening.
Edwards announced his retirement from NESN in April after 19 years as the Bruins play-by-play broadcaster.
Sunday’s contest will also feature special themed contests and entertainment about Edwards at the Garden. Additionally, fans can shop limited-edition Jack Edwards merchandise, including t-shirts and commemorative pucks, at the ProShop powered by ’47 or online at BostonProShop.com.
