STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) – Thousands of runners will descend on the Big Apple for the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday.
The marathon, a 26.2-mile course, kicks off at 8 a.m. on Staten Island. There are street closures throughout the day during the event at the discretion of the NYPD, so taking mass transit is encouraged.
How many runners are expected to take part in this year's event?
Over 50,000 runners took part in last year's marathon, according to New York Road Runners. In 2023, 51,453 runners finished the race.
The marathon ends in Central Park. The cutoff time for the race is 10 p.m.
