Ange Postecoglou was very pleased with how one of Tottenham’s substitutes performed when he came on against Manchester City.
The pressure was starting to pile up on Postecoglou following Tottenham’s defeat at Selhurst Park and things could have got quite grim for the Australian if they had been knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
However, Spurs certainly came to the party against the Premier League champions, showing that they can compete with anyone when they are at their best.
The Lilywhites emerged as deserved 2-1 winners, and they will now play Manchester United at home for a chance to get into the semifinal of the Carabao Cup.
Several individuals stood out for Spurs, including Dejan Kulusevski, who assisted both of the home side’s goals, and Radu Dragusin, who was incredibly solid at the back.
However, what would have pleased Postecoglou was the collective effort, with the players backing each other up and putting their bodies on the line.
The Tottenham head coach has now singled out Destiny Udogie for praise, admitting that he was pleased with what he saw from the Italian after he came on for the injured Micky van de Ven.
Postescoglou told the club’s official channel: “Destiny stepped in and played another game and I thought he was outstanding when he came on.”
Udogie has blown a bit hot and cold so far this season but the 21-year-old served another reminder of his qualities on Wednesday, hardly putting a foot wrong.
The former Udinese man was solid defensively and supported Timo Werner well with his powerful overlaps down the left.
The left-back played 76 minutes, and according to TBR Football, he had a total of 40 touches of the ball, completing 17 of his 19 passes. The Italy international also made two interceptions and two clearances.
