DEAR DEIDRE: My husband is funny and popular, so why does he feel the need to lie?
Sometimes he tells so many different versions of what has really happened, that even I get confused. I’m 41 and he’s 45.
I don’t think he’s ever seriously deceitful but all these small untruths unnerve me.
Why does he feel the need to constantly alter the truth for others?
For example he was made Employee Of The Month award recently but told his mum that he was Employee Of The Year.
It makes me think he’s hiding something.

Some adults find it hard to let this go.
Rather than confront your husband, you can show him that you are proud of him, by gently saying how brilliant it was that he got the Employee Of The Month award.
Hopefully, his self-esteem may then improve and hopefully the urge to fib might diminish.
