Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, began on Oct. 31 this year, so Priyanka Chopra Jonas and her husband Nick Jonas celebrated a combined Diwali-Halloween with their 2-year-old daughter Malti. The Citadel star shared stunning new family photos of the event she dubbed “Diwaloween” — but people were upset about one detail in her post.
“Just a perfect Diwaloween ????????,” Chopra Jonas captioned the post on Instagram today. In the photo, Chopra Jonas and Malti held hands in matching red sarees, with Jonas standing next to them in a traditional Indian dhoti-kurta in white with beaded elements. They stand in a doorway, surrounded by lit candles on the ground, looking absolutely glamorous.
She shared several more pictures of the event, including one with her and the “Waffle House” singer outside next to twinkling lights on a tree. Chopra Jonas holds Malti as the trio enjoy sparklers in more casual clothes. The photos seem so sweet, but people were mad that Chopra Jonas blurred out Malti’s face in one photo and added a red heart emoji over her face in another, even though she has previously posted public photos of her daughter.
Questions like, “Why hiding her face now ????” abounded in the comments. “Why hiding Malti’s face again? Btw love the matching ‘red dress’ ????” someone else wrote, referring to the famous line in the Jonas Brothers song “Burnin’ Up.”
Others tried to by nice about it, like this comment, “Why are you hiding Malti’s face Priyanka ♥️ We have seen her and we love her ???? Happy Diwali ????.”
Chopra Jonas’s decision to protect her daughter’s face is a personal one, and one that’s up to her and Jonas — not random people on the internet. Some people defended her decision, writing, “Happy Diwali and Priyanka as MM mom has every right to show or not to show her face stop asking creepy questions people.” Someone else commented, “We’re glad that you started to hide Malti’s precious face. The internet is full of creepy people!”
Earlier this week, the Love Again star shared a cute video of Malti teaching her dad how to count in Hindi. She also posted a photo celebrating Dhanteras, a celebration that marks the beginning of Diwali. In it, Malti clasps her hands together and shows off her arms covered in sparkly diamond bracelets.
Malti celebrated her first Diwali when she was just 9 months old in 2022. The Good Half star shared photos of the celebration at the time, with Malti and Chopra Jonas in matching cream sarees. “Such a beautiful Diwali celebration with my ♥️,” Jonas wrote. “Happy Diwali everyone. Sending joy and light to you all. #diwali” (These also had a heart emoji over Malti’s face, by the way.)
Chopra Jonas also shared photos from Malti’s first Diwali, writing at the time, “Love, peace and prosperity to all. From a heart truly laden with gratitude, I wish you all a Happy Diwali. Sorry I’m a little late but decided to stay in the moment just a little bit longer.. ॐ नमः शिवाय From ours to yours. Love and light ????????????❤️.”
