DERBY, Kan. (KSNW) -- A Wichita woman died after backing into an active airplane propeller in Derby Saturday afternoon. The incident happened around 2:40 at Cook Airfield.
According to the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, the woman, identified as 35-year-old Amanda Gallagher, was taking photos when she walked into the propeller and was critically injured. She died at the hospital.
Cook Airfield posted a message about the tragedy on Facebook on Sunday:
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the young lady who died yesterday after a tragic accident with an airplane propeller on Cook Airfield. I wasn't there when it happened, so I will not speculate on what could have or should have happened differently. Just please keep her family, her friends and her Air Capital Drop Zone family in your prayers and thoughts."
