Tim Sherwood makes a confession about one Tottenham star, who is coming into his own with a new role in the team this season.
While many suspected last season that Dejan Kulusevski would be more suited to playing centrally than on the right, it has now been proven beyond doubt.
The 24-year-old has taken many people by surprise by just how dominant he has been in the middle of the park this season.
Not only has he made Spurs more threatening going forward, but he has also put in so much defensive work, using his physicality to help the Lilywhites consistently win the midfield battle.
Sherwood identified Tottenham’s equaliser on 36 minutes as a crucial turning point in their win over West Ham United.
Kulusevski got the important goal, with the Swede making space for himself at the edge of the box and unleashing a shot which went into the back of the net off both posts.
Speaking about that goal, Sherwood told Premier League productions (via TBR Football): “It was really important for Spurs to get one back. I thought that they were getting comfortable there.
“I’d hate to play against this kid, Kulusevski. I think the goalkeeper is unlucky, but they are deservedly level there, Tottenham.”
The former Juventus man certainly seems to be enjoying the freedom that comes with his new role and he is now turning in world-class performances week-in, week-out.
However, Postecoglou feels that there is even more to come from Kulusevski, suggesting that the attacker could pitch in with a lot more goals and assists.
The Tottenham head coach said about Spurs’ number 21 (via Football.London): “He has been doing that all year and the evolution of Deki as a player, that is now his role not just for us but he’s playing there for the national team too. He’s got this ability to get out of tight spaces and he’s a really strong runner. He is relentless in his running capacity and he also has the quality.
“In that final third, I still think we can get more goals out of him, more assists but he is constantly in those threatening areas and he’s been outstanding for us all year. Today he had to show some other facets of the game, some defensive work as well which I thought he did well but I thought the whole team did well.”
