'Superman' Update: James Gunn Talks David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Krypto & Trailer Timing
Superman is coming!
James Gunn made an appearance at 2024 New York Comic Con on Saturday (October 19), and provided hints at the upcoming DC Universe projects.
During his appearance, he provided an update about the highly anticipated Superman project, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. He also addressed the canine hero, Krypto, as well as trailer timing.
“Krypto, that’s been something that’s just been amazing. We’ve been working with him in the edit. He’s an incredible part of the story to me personally,” he teased.
“When I was writing the screenplay, he came in and kind of changed everything up. We’re deep in the process of editing.”
“David Corenswet is going to f-cking blow people away. He is the movie star that everyone just dreams he could possibly be. I don’t think anyone really understands the depth of this guy’s talent dramatically, comedically. He’s the best physical action star I’ve probably ever worked with,” he gushed.
James also teased the trailer’s timing: “I feel good about it, and I’m really hard on stuff, so it’s been fantastic… It won’t be too long before we see a trailer, but it also won’t be too soon.”
The movie follows the titular superhero as he reconciles his heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way in a world that views this as old-fashioned. It’s expected in theaters on July 11, 2025.
