WatchTime New York 2024 starts tonight, and with it the novelties of the show are rolling out. For this year’s event, Bell & Ross will once again be launching a new timepiece, today unveiling the BR-X5 Blue Lum. The new watch, as one can imagine by its name, takes the 2022-unveiled BR-X5 design and adds to it Bell & Ross’ signature full lume treatment from its case to dial, this time with a blue hue. The watch follows the 2023 Green Lum model which did much of the same with a verdant glow. Nonetheless, the work represents not only a unique application of the lume, but also a creative elevation of one of the most important series for the brand.
On the wrist, the Blue Lum measures 41.0mm by 12.8mm in the BR-X5’s now familiar silhouette, complete with its circle-within-a-square style, four bezel screws, and integrated rubber strap. The case features the distinct hollowed sides which have become a signature of the series, alongside forward-thinking crown guards, and a solid water resistance of 100 meters.
Distinct for the model is its construction, which uses multiple materials. These include most of its components produced from Grade 2 microblasted titanium with DLC finish, as well as the most visual aspects in upper and lower inserts produced from blue luminescent quartz fiber composite. The look of the watch on account of the quartz fiber and DLC treatment is matte, but then shines brightly in low light conditions.
The dial of the model follows the case in terms of the use of black, blue lume, and matte finishing, though is otherwise standard BR-X5. An outer minute flange encircles the look, while an aviation inspired date window and power reserve indicator add complications to the otherwise time-and-date display. Super-LumiNova is applied liberally, as one can imagine, and quickly reading the time is as easy as could be whether in the light or dark.
Inside, the BR-X5 is powered by the automatic BR-CAL.323 movement, developed in collaboration with Kenissi Manufacture. This caliber offers a 70-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph. The movement’s advanced construction, visible through the caseback, includes a skeletonized rotor, adding to its intrigue.
The Bell & Ross BR-X5 Blue Lum is available for pre-order now, with deliveries to begin at the end of October. Pricing is marked at $13,300.
