Dezeen Showroom: Belgian lighting design brand Modular Lighting Instruments and designer Maarten De Ceulaer have released a wall lamp that casts a gradient of geometric-shaped light across walls.
The Impulse wall light comes in diamond and circular shapes, which emit striking washes of light that correspond to the lamp's shape.
"I wanted the shape of the fixture to be minimal – all the attention goes to the light and shadow effect, without any distraction," said designer Maarten De Ceulaer.
According to the brand, the designer went through 101 different shapes to perfect the cast shadow. The lamps were then cut to razor-sharp edges and the LED bulbs positioned with great care to achieve the distinctive effect.
"Impulse is very architectural – the interplay of light and shadow is simply shown," said Modular Lighting Instruments. "This simplicity however is what makes the outcome surprising and beautiful."
The lamps' minimalistic design allows them to blend into a range of interior design schemes, from residential and wellness to hospitality and office spaces.
