UPDATE, 10/17/24, 8:30 p.m.: A man is in the hospital after a shooting at the Walmart in Crowley Thursday afternoon.
People going in and out of the store said they had no idea there was a crime scene. One woman said she pulled into Walmart, thinking it was just a car crash.
"All I saw were vehicles kind of crashed together. I had no idea what was going on, so I came and parked my vehicle. I didn't know too much at all," one shopper said.
Another shopper was inside Walmart when the shooting happened.
"We were just shopping in Walmart, going about our business and just came out and saw the fire truck and the cops," the shopper said.
Both customers said it was business as usual inside the store. They say everyone inside was oblivious to what was happening outside.
"Oh my God. I can't believe it. I just can't believe it," a customer said. "You just don't think it would happen around you or near you, this close to you."
For the shoppers, it was a reminder to stay alert.
"It's very scary. There's a lot of people that are around here. I work in this city, so it's very scary, especially right now we have the Rice Festival going on," a woman said. "There are so many more people around right now with their little kids, and now they have this going on not far from it. So, it's scary for everyone. It could have happened to anyone."
