A WOMAN has revealed that she hasn’t washed her hair in over a year – but it’s not greasy.

Georgia Peck explained that instead of using shampoo and conditioner, she uses eggs and nettles amongst a variety of other natural ingredients, to keep her locks looking thick and wavy.

The writer and artist regularly creates content focusing on healing and holistic health on social media, and her recent clip has left many stunned, as she shared why she has stopped using store-bought hair care products.

Posting online, the young woman who lives an ‘ancestral lifestyle’ and swears by organic beauty, confessed: “I haven’t washed my hair in over a year using any shampoos or any conditioners or any hair care products and as you can see, my hair is pretty thick, it’s pretty wavy, and this is to prove to you that you don’t need to buy any shampoos, or conditioners or hair care products.”

Georgia claimed that not only does she not use standard shampoo and conditioner, but she also won’t touch products that are branded as “organic and biodegradable”.

She claimed that many mainstream hair care products are filled with chemicals that strip our scalp of natural oils and cause oiliness, dandruff and flakiness.

As a result, to ensure that her hair stays healthy and hydrated, and her scalp remains cleansed, she shared her hair hack.

She revealed: “I create a herbal hair rinse once a week and that includes things like rosemary and lavender, oregano, apple cider vinegar, nettle, and if I’m feeling particularly feral, I will also add in a raw egg, also some olive oil

“After I have rinsed my hair with some warm water and apple cider vinegar, I will then add the hair rinse and I will usually leave this in for five to 10 minutes, and I will just lightly rinse it out.”

Not only this, but Georgia also explained that your diet is equally as important as what you put on your hair, as it’s essential that you keep your body hydrated.

And Georgia claimed that using her herbal rinse, which includes raw egg, contains proteins that will nourish our locks.

The content creator then revealed that she is often asked ‘doesn’t your hair get really greasy?’

To this, the brunette beauty confirmed: “Well, the fact is, if you’ve been using shampoo over and over again for your whole life, your hair is going to be in this sort of cycle where you strip the oils, and then more oil is produced, and then you need to wash it again, so you need to break this cycle and this can take between four and six weeks, depending on your kind of hair type.”

She stressed that it took a six week adjustment period, whereby her hair would look “unnaturally oily”.

Expert advice on how often we should really be washing our hair

According to stylist Scott Miller of Bauhaus salons in Cardiff, Wales, washing every day may be too much – and some people only need to wash once a week.

Hopefully, you’re bathing yourself daily – but that doesn’t mean you need to wash your hair along with your body.

Miller said that washing your hair every day, as some people do, might be overkill – and overwashing your scalp and strands will stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more oil, making it more greasy.

He told Wales Online: “Unless you’ve been working really hard at the gym or have been on a building site and it’s covered in dust – you don’t need to wash your hair every day.

“There’s a big #nopoo movement at the moment, with people boasting about going weeks without shampooing, but for most of us, cutting out one or two washes will make a big difference.”

The frequency with which you should wash your hair depends on several factors, including your hair type, lifestyle, and personal preferences. Here are some general guidelines:

Hair Type:

Oily Hair: If you have oily hair, you might need to wash it more frequently, such as every day or every other day, to keep it looking fresh.

Dry Hair: Those with dry hair should aim to wash it less often, perhaps once or twice a week, to avoid stripping the hair of its natural oils.

Normal Hair: If your hair is neither too oily nor too dry, washing it two to three times a week is usually sufficient.

Lifestyle:

Active Lifestyle: If you exercise regularly or sweat a lot, you may need to wash your hair more frequently to remove sweat and dirt.

Less Active Lifestyle: If you’re less active, you can extend the time between washes.

Scalp Health:

Dandruff or Scalp Conditions: If you have dandruff or other scalp conditions, consult a dermatologist for specific advice, as you may need to use specialised shampoos more frequently.

Hair Treatments:

Coloured or Chemically Treated Hair: If your hair is coloured or chemically treated, you may need to wash it less often to preserve the treatment and prevent damage.

Personal Preference:

Ultimately, how often you wash your hair is a personal choice. Some people prefer the feel of freshly washed hair, while others find that washing less frequently works better for them.

Despite being desperate to wash her hair, Georgia persisted and explained that over time, her hair has adjusted and now doesn’t need washing in the standard way.

As a result, she beamed: “I honestly do not regret one second of my choice – my hair feels so soft!”

BIG DIVIDE

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @georgia_peckk, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it was shared just one day ago, but has quickly racked up a whopping 458,300 views. 

But social media users were left divided with Georgia’s hair care routine – whilst some admitted that they too do the same thing, others couldn’t get on board.

One user shared: “Yes! Me too! For eight years now. Only water, twice a week. Same procedure, as if I’m using shampoo. 

“In summer I sometimes wash it with an egg with honey. Or with baking soda and rinse with vinegar.” 

A second chimed in: “I have not used any hair products since 2008 and it’s fine.” 

Whilst someone else claimed: “Agreed. After decades of daily shampoo, now it’s water every day and scrub with my fingers. Win.”

However, at the same time, one person said: “If I left my hair for a week my hair would stink and my head would itch.” 

Another added: “My scalp would grow a new ecosystem.” 

And a third commented: “I’m sorry but I can’t just rinse my hair with water, it needs shampoo.

“I’ve tried and I wish I could be one of those natural people, but my head feels disgusting and greasy if I don’t shampoo my hair.”
