A 77-year-old woman was robbed of cash and jewellery while in her home at Souni village in Limassol on Monday night.
According to police, two masked men entered the house from a closed but unlocked door shortly after 10pm and threatened the pensioner with a wooden bat, demanding she hand over her valuables.
The woman told officers the men who, she said spoke Greek with a foreign accent, had confronted her in the living room and demanded money.
As one of the men watched the homeowner, the second went to the bedroom and took from under the mattress three bags containing a total of €2,500.
They also took a credit card and jewellery from a drawer. This included a gold ring worth around €500, police said.
At the same time, the man in the living room violently pulled a gold chain from the woman’s neck valued at €750. He also tried to unsuccessfully remove her wedding ring from her finger by force.
The thieves then left the house and she called the police.
