The average age of the Tottenham Hotspur squad is just 24.3 according to Transfermarkt, which is among the lowest in the Premier League.
Tottenham have gone through a major revamp over the last 15 months, with the squad now looking very different to the one Ange Postecoglou inherited last year.
The major difference comes in the form of the average age, with Spurs prioritising signing up-and-coming young talents under the new regime rather than big names.
That is reflected in the squad’s average age, which is the second lowest in the Premier League at just 24.3.
Only Chelsea, who also have a clearly stated policy of prioritising young players, have a younger squad than Spurs in the English top-flight.
At the opposite end of the table, Everton and West Ham have the two oldest squads in the Premier League, with an average age of 27.7 and 28.1 respectively.
Premier League Clubs | Average age in years |
Chelsea FC | 23.4 |
Tottenham Hotspur | 24.3 |
Brighton & Hove Albion | 24.9 |
AFC Bournemouth | 25.0 |
Brentford FC | 25.1 |
Southampton FC | 25.4 |
Arsenal FC | 25.5 |
Ipswich Town | 25.8 |
Manchester United | 25.8 |
Aston Villa | 25.8 |
Nottingham Forest | 25.9 |
Leicester City | 25.9 |
Crystal Palace | 26.2 |
Wolverhampton Wanderers | 26.4 |
Liverpool FC | 26.6 |
Newcastle United | 26.8 |
Manchester City | 27.0 |
Fulham FC | 27.6 |
Everton FC | 27.7 |
West Ham United | 28.1 |
These numbers show that there are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about the project underway at Tottenham, with many of these players likely to get better over the next few years.
Postecoglou will hope that he is able to help the younger crop at Spurs, including the likes of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Wilson Odobert and others, fulfil their potential.
However, given that football is a results-based industry, the Australian will be aware that he needs to deliver this season in order to have hopes of building a long-term project in North London.
