The Pashtun Protection Movement (PTM) leader, Manzoor Pashteen, has called for the Pashtun Jirga of Pakistan to form a 240,000-strong military force and take responsibility for securing their regions.
He proposed that both the Taliban (TTP) and Pakistan’s military should leave Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within the next two months.
Pashteen suggested that the Pashtun tribes and political parties should create this military force, with a minimum of 3,000 soldiers assigned to each district for security purposes.
He also urged the Pashtun Jirga to officially label Pakistan’s military intelligence, the ISI, and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as “terrorists.”
Pashteen highlighted that Pakistan often holds separate jirgas with individual Pashtun tribes, and he insisted that no one should hold such meetings without the permission of the larger Pashtun Jirga.
On economic matters, Pashteen called for a fixed price for electricity in Pashtun areas, stressing that electricity is a major resource for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most of which is transferred to Punjab.
He also proposed forming a committee to manage the region’s mineral resources and prevent the over-extraction of natural assets.
Pashteen reiterated that Pashtuns did not recognize the Afghanistan-Pakistan border known as the Durand Line and demanded that all trade routes be opened for them. He warned that the Pashtuns will reject their regulations if Pakistan does not facilitate these demands.
Finally, Pashteen urged the Jirga to ask the Afghan Taliban to guarantee the right to education for girls, noting that the situation in Afghanistan has a direct impact on the entire region.
