HAYWARD – A 46-year-old Newark man was arrested last week in connection with a fatal shooting in July, according to authorities.
Shots were fired around 10:30 a.m. on July 13 near the intersection of Pompano Avenue and Sumatra Street, the Hayward Police Department said in a news release Monday.
Officers arrived to find evidence of a shooting, police said. Moments later, they received additional reports of a shooting in the 27000 block of Havana Avenue, as well as reports of a collision.
At the second location, officers found Angel Enciso, 19, of Hayward, suffering from gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat of a car, police said. He appeared to have crashed into a parked car after being shot.
Enciso was taken to an area hospital, where he later died of his injuries, police said.
The death marked the city’s seventh homicide of the year.
Detectives gathered evidence and identified Daniel Ramos as a suspect in the fatal shooting, police said.
On Oct. 10, Ramos was arrested on suspicion of murder. A search of his home in Newark also turned up several firearms, which were booked into evidence, police said.
Police did not disclose a motive for the shooting.
“This investigation is ongoing,” police said, “and further details will be released when they are available.”
