As Arkansas continued its steady play to remain undefeated in the conference, redshirt freshman Aniya Madkin remains one of the best in the league as she was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week for the second time on Monday.
Madkin is Arkansas’ first repeat Freshman of the Week since Taylor Head in the split 2020-21 season and the first Hog to earn the honor in back-to-back weeks since Jasmine Norton in 2009.
Aniya has led the Razorbacks in kills in the last six matches, each of which were 10+ kill performances. In Sunday’s sweep over Alabama, she tallied 15 and hit .308, her second consecutive match with a hitting clip of over .300.
Madkin is registering 3.88 kills per set this season, which is ninth in the SEC, highest for any league freshman, and 62nd nationally. In conference matches only, she’s put up 5.47 kills per set, better than any other player in the SEC.
Aniya and the Razorbacks head to Texas this week for a pair of matches. They take on the Texas Longhorns first in an 8 p.m. match on Friday in Austin, and then travel to College Station to face the Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
Arkansas is 4-0 in SEC play and 14-2 overall this season.
