‘I miss you, says i-Pill’: Zepto sends notification to Bengaluru woman, company says…

In a shocking matter which has taken the internet by storm, a Bengaluru women received a notification from Quick commerce platform Zepto, igniting a social media war against the online startup. The Zepto notification, which read, “I miss you, Pallavi, says I-pill Emergency Contraceptive pill,” ignited serious questions about the ethics of digital marketing and what kind of push notifications are accepted to be sent to a female user over internet.

“One, I have never ordered an emergency pill from you. Even if I did, you should know that this is not something that should be missing me or I should be missing it,” Pareek, a legal expert specializing in workplace diversity and sexual harassment prevention, wrote on LinkedIn, tagging Zepto and Zepto Cares.

“Messaging is right only if it is sensitive or humorous or has some logic to it. I draw a line when your notifications are flirty or trying to be sleazy cheesy. But this is a little too much,” Pareek added.

Response from Zepto

In response to the multiple wave of criticisms on the internet, Zepto acknowledged the mistake and said, “We understand how this was a misfire on a lot of levels”.

The quick commerce giant admitted that sending such a message was mistake and assured users that they are taking immediate action to fix the issue. Zepto emphasized, “We value your trust and well-being above all. This mistake won’t happen again.

Despite her criticism, Pareek admitted that she “loves” the app and depends “heavily” on quick commerce services in her everyday routine. She clarified, “This post is meant to point out the flaw in mindless logic and copy, not to criticize the i-Pill promotion or its availability.”

Many social media users also tried to defend Zepto and said that the user can turn off the app notifications, to which, Pareek responded “Ignoring or looking the other way isn’t the way to participate in solutioning.”
