Ranking the top ten best managers in the Premier League was the name of the game on this week’s edition of Sky Sports Saturday Social, with Ange Postecoglou’s placement being the subject of plenty of debate.
While there is no doubt that Postecoglou has made many positive changes at Tottenham since he walked through the door in the summer of last year, the Australian does split opinion, both among Spurs fans and the wider footballing public.
Some are fans of his high-octane style of play while others consider it a bit naive and question if it can bring sustained success in the Premier League.
It feels like the next few months could be quite defining in Postecoglou’s tenure as Tottenham manager as we enter a crucial point in the season.
Saturday Social invited Spurs fan Fuad Cadani and Bolton Wanderers fan Nieve Petruzziello to debate the top ten managers in the Premier League.
The duo came up with a combined list where Postecoglou ranked in fifth place behind Pep Guardiola, Unai Emery, Mikel Arteta and Arne Slot.
However, the selection was not unanimous, with Petruzziello suggesting that she would have both Eddie Howe and Thomas Frank as the Tottenham head coach. Watch the discussion here.
When one looks at all of Tottenham’s underlying metrics this season (both offensively and defensively), it is clear that the Lilywhites have made huge strides under Postecoglou.
However, football is a result-based industry and one can understand why the 59-year-old has come under criticism, given Spurs’ lack of consistency.
The big question is whether those underlying metrics will translate themselves into results sooner rather than later for Spurs.
