A delegation from France’s Ministry of Armed Forces met with Uzbekistan’s special presidential envoy for Afghanistan on Saturday to discuss border security, counterterrorism, and drug trafficking from Afghanistan.
They also emphasized efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan.
Uzbek media reported on Saturday that Ismatulla Irgashev, Uzbekistan’s special presidential envoy for Afghanistan, held talks with the French delegation.
The discussions focused on the challenges facing Afghanistan, highlighting the importance of coordinated actions to address key issues such as border security, terrorism, and the trafficking of drugs and weapons.
The French delegation praised Uzbekistan’s efforts in supporting peace in Afghanistan.
Both the French and Uzbek delegations stressed the need to combat terrorism, echoing concerns raised by international organizations about the growing threat of terrorism from Afghanistan to the region and the world.
Earlier, Uzbekistan’s National Security Service chief stated that Afghanistan must not be left alone in the fight against terrorism.
In a meeting organized by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in mid-September, Central Asian countries emphasized strengthening security cooperation, particularly concerning Afghanistan.
The SCO members, including Uzbekistan, had urged the Taliban earlier this year to fulfil their commitments to combating terrorism, especially in suppressing terrorist groups that threaten member countries.
The discussions between France and Uzbekistan underline the critical need for regional cooperation in addressing Afghanistan’s security challenges, with a shared focus on counterterrorism and maintaining peace in the broader region.
