Washington, DC, October 8, 2024 – Former Member of the European Parliament Reinhard Bütikofer today joins the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) as a Senior Fellow with its Digital Innovation Initiative (DII).
With over three decades of experience in German and European policymaking, Bütikofer, a dedicated public servant and leader, now joins CEPA’s distinguished network of thought leaders and policymakers.
CEPA’s President and CEO, Dr. Alina Polyakova, said, “I am thrilled to welcome Reinhard to CEPA. His decades of prescient leadership on a wide array of issues, from European technology and trade policy to EU diplomatic relations throughout Asia, illustrates the cross-cutting nature of how decisions made in Brussels and Washington can drive positive impact across the globe. It is an honor to have Reinhard’s help in bolstering CEPA’s presence in Europe and thought leadership on key issues facing the future of the transatlantic alliance.”
Bütikofer said, “I am delighted to join CEPA’s Digital Innovation Initiative. Technology will shape our quest for prosperity and sustainability and also the defense of national security, human rights and international rule of law against authoritarian threats from systemic rivals or from domestic developments.”
Representing Germany’s Green Party, Bütikofer served in the European Parliament from 2009 to 2024. His distinguished career includes roles as Co-chair of the European Green Party (2012-2019), Leader of Alliance 90/The Greens (2002-2008), and as a member of the parliament for the Baden-Württemberg region in Germany.
At CEPA, Bütikofer will bring his expertise in the EU’s green transition, EU-China and EU-Taiwan relations, and transatlantic technology trade to a global network of thought leaders.
