Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his visit to Riyadh. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the two discussed the need for regional and international cooperation to stop the wars in Gaza and Lebanon.
On Wednesday, October 9, Araghchi tweeted that he had a “very important” conversation with Mohammed bin Salman, addressing Iran and Saudi Arabia’s mutual concerns.
Araghchi emphasized that “Israel’s actions are dragging the entire region into disaster” and that vision, wisdom, courage, and cooperation are essential for overcoming the current challenges in the region.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also highlighted in a tweet that the meeting covered the latest developments in the region, emphasizing the necessity for regional and international collaboration to halt the genocide in Gaza and military aggression against Lebanon.
Iran’s state news agency (IRNA) reported that Mohammed bin Salman expressed deep concern over the escalating crisis and the spread of war in the Middle East during the meeting.
Prior to this, Araghchi had also met with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, where both sides reiterated the importance of stopping the wars in Gaza and Lebanon.
This high-level meeting between Iranian and Saudi officials comes amidst Israel’s intensified attacks on Lebanon, which have escalated in recent days. Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon have killed several senior Hezbollah commanders, further heightening tensions in the region.
The growing hostilities and increasing Israeli aggression raise concerns about the broader destabilization of the Middle East, with the conflict spilling across borders and worsening regional unrest.
