President Biden is slated to provide an update on the federal government's preparation and response to Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall in Florida as early as Wednesday evening.
The National Hurricane Center reported early Wednesday that Milton is 250 miles southwest of Tampa, Fla., and is a Category 4 storm.
Biden and Vice President Harris were given a briefing on the hurricane and its potential storm surge earlier Wednesday. The president issued a dire warning in his update Tuesday, telling residents in the region to evacuate “now, now, now” because it’s a “matter of life and death.”
The storm comes less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene hit the southeastern U.S., leaving its own wave of destruction.
His remarks are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EDT.
