SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) - The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office is responding to a reported single-vehicle crash east of Topeka Monday.
The sheriff's office posted to social media at 9:58 a.m. on Oct. 7 of a crash at Southeast 45th Street and Southeast Stubbs Road. The crash was first reported around 8:40 a.m. Monday morning.
Sheriff's office spokeswoman Abigail Christian told 27 News first responders are still at the scene as of 11:30 a.m. and that one person was hospitalized in the crash. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and use Southeast 37th Street, 53rd Street or Stanley Road to get around the crash site.
Christian said the crash occurred when the driver of a Peterbilt semi with a dump bed was traveling east on Southeast 45th Street. The driver crossed the centerline and left the road to the north, hitting a mailbox before leaving the road to the south and hitting a utility pole. The 75-year-old man driving the semi was hospitalized with serious injuries.
