A VIRAL candy recipe perfect for Halloween has got the attention of sweet-toothed TikTok users.
Here is everything you need to know about the sweet dish that could also end up being a dentist’s worst nightmare.
TikTokers are loving a new salad recipe trend that involves nothing but sweet and sour candies.
The format of the trend asks a group of people to bring in their favourite candies and dump them into one single punch bowl, creating a salad out of the sweet treats.
By the end of the video, you have a massive bowl filled with an assortment of candies – or what is now called the Candy Salad.
While the concept of eating mixed and matched candies has been there for a while on the internet, the true origins of this trend can be traced back to a video from last year posted by a TikTok account called Joshandsav (@joshandsav).
The clip, which now has millions of views, showed a woman mixing different bags of candies that her husband bought for her.
It is believed the idea of tossing different-flavoured candies into one bowl has originated from this video.
There is no set recipe for a Candy Salad that can be enjoyed on various occasions like a house party – and can be themed for holidays and other events.
All you need is a bunch of different candies and put them in a single bowl or container.
Some of the top ingredients include gummy patches, sour patches, sour straws, cola tubes, gummy bears and clusters, watermelon candies – and even chocolate bars.
And since the dish is made entirely out of candies, it can be stored for a longer period, preferably in an air-tight container.
While eating candies can be fun, especially when mixed with different flavours, consuming too many surgery products can affect our teeth.
And Halloween can be one of those times when people – and kids – are eating loads of sweet treats.
It is easy to get lost in the excitement, but it is important to note that it can take a toll on your teeth.
Experts advise people to not chew or keep sweet candies for too long in their mouths as it can increase the chances of cavities.
Hard and sticky candies should be avoided as they can damage the enamel.
It is also very important to wash your mouth with water after eating candies, as left-away chunks of sweets can allow harmful bacteria to grow and can cause tooth decay.
A teeth expert said: “It’s no secret that consuming too much sugar can have a harmful effect on our overall health, but it is also the leading cause of tooth decay in both children and adults.
“When we eat sugar, it interacts with the bacteria in plaque to produce acid, which can slowly dissolve the enamel on our teeth and create holes or cavities.”
If you just can’t stay away from the sweet stuff, the expert suggests “try to enjoy sugar in balance and opt for unprocessed forms of sugar where possible”.
