Lee Carsley has made a big admission about Dominic Solanke after naming the Tottenham man in his latest England squad.
The 26-year-old might have felt a little hard done by after being left out of the England squad for the Euros after all the goals that he scored for Bournemouth last season.
However, on the back of an impressive start to his Tottenham career, the Englishman has now been able to force himself back into the Three Lions set-up, seven years on from winning his first and only cap for his country.
The striker will hope that he gets an opportunity to show what he can do in the Nations League fixtures against Greece and Finland, with the player in red-hot form at the moment.
Carsley pointed out that he is well aware of Solanke’s attributes, having worked with the striker in the past. The England boss also suggested that the Tottenham man might have made it into his last squad if he had not got injured at the wrong time.
When asked about the striker’s inclusion, the 50-year-old told BBC Sport: “Dom’s a player I’m fully aware of having worked with him in the past. He was really close to being in the last squad but got injured just before selection.
“He did so well at Bournemouth and now he’s taken that form into Spurs. He’s got a lot of really good attributes that I really like, as well as being a really nice person. He’s extremely talented and it’s good that we’ve got him.”
Postecoglou admitted that he is delighted for Solanke, insisting that the forward deserves to be back in after working extremely hard to work his way back up the top.
However, the Tottenham head coach refused to take any credit for the former Cherries star’s selection.
The Australian told Football.London about Solanke’s selection: “Dom he’s had to work awfully hard in his career. It’s important to all young players that the trajectory doesn’t always go in a linear fashion.
“He was at big clubs, didn’t get started but that didn’t deter him went to Bournemouth and did well. It’s all down to him. I’ve had him for a month, I’ve had zero to do with his call-up, it’s down to him.”
