Former Premier League star Troy Deeney has picked one Manchester United star in his Team of the Week.
The Red Devils went winless for the fifth-game running following a goalless Premier League draw against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The club lacked the cutting edge in front of goal, but they were good defensively with a first clean sheet in almost three weeks.
Jonny Evans was undoubtedly the stand-out performer, but Deeney picked Diogo Dalot in his Team of the Week for BBC Sport.
The former Watford star said: “He hasn’t been great this season but has been very consistent for Manchester United over the last couple of years.
“Whether he’s at left-back or right-back, he plays really well. He helped his team to get a good point at high-flying Aston Villa and a result Manchester United really needed.”
Dalot has played as a left-back for United in the Premier League this term. His performances have been inconsistent. He was poor with his positioning against Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite this, manager Erik ten Hag has continued to stick with the Portuguese in the role, given Tyrell Malacia is working on his fitness while Luke Shaw has yet to train after injury.
The £34 million-rated star had a good outing at Villa Park yesterday with 100% of his ground duels and 100% of his tackles won. He also made three clearances in the game.
He played as a traditional left-back against Unai Emery’s side. He was caught out of position trying to invert into midfield in previous games. Ten Hag’s tactical change worked.
Dalot will now report for Nations League duty with Portugal. They take on Poland and Scotland.
The Red Devils face Brentford at Old Trafford following the international break.
