120 Afghan citizens arrested during Islamabad protests: claims Interior Minister
Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, claimed that Afghan citizens were involved in the protests led by Imran Khan’s supporters in Islamabad. He stated that 120 Afghans have been arrested so far.
During a press conference on Saturday, Naqvi revealed that over 100 Afghans were identified and detained over the past two days amid the Islamabad protests.
He expressed surprise at the involvement of Afghan citizens, questioning why they were present among the protesters, who were supposed to be locals.
However, Waqar Saif, the information advisor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, denied the claims, labeling them as propaganda. He refuted the allegations of Afghan involvement in the protests led by Ali Amin Gandapur, a leader of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party.
Saif emphasized that only the workers of the Tehreek-e-Insaf party participated in the protests, accusing Mohsin Naqvi’s press conference of being filled with lies.
Reports also indicated that at least 80 police officers were injured in clashes with protesters supporting Imran Khan.
The conflicting narratives between government officials and party representatives raise questions about the authenticity of the claims regarding Afghan involvement. The situation remains tense as authorities continue investigating the protests and the alleged presence of foreign nationals.
