NEW YORK (PIX11) – Summer may be over but NYC Parks is already helping New Yorkers get ready for the water next year.
Registration for the “Learn to Swim” program with NYC Parks closes Monday, Oct. 7. Lessons are free as long as you’re a member of a recreation center.
Classes are open to people of all ages including those as young as 1 ½ -years-old to those over 62-years-old.
The program selects prospective swimming students through a lottery system. If selected the winner must register for classes within three days and attend a water test.
Classes are available at various times with swim sites located throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.
If you miss the registration deadline or if you are not selected, organizers suggest applying again for the winter and spring seasons. NYC Parks will also offer walk-in registration on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Learn to Swim program is one of many, offered for free by the NYC Parks Department.
