The Waukesha County District Attorney's race is one of four competitive district attorney races out of 71 in the state this year, according to the Wisconsin District Attorneys Association.The only two candidates vying for the seat, Lesli Boese and Mike Thurston, are both Republicans. In the absence of a Democratic candidate, the partisan primary on Aug. 13 will determine who wins.Boese and Thurston have a lot in common. Both are long-time prosecutors who currently serve as deputy district attorneys in Waukesha County.Boese has been with the office for 29 years, leading the drug unit for the past eight years.Thurston has been with the office for nine years and currently leads the sensitive crimes unit, which prosecutes domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault cases.
