Perrie Edwards just dropped her latest single “You Go Your Way” and the meaning behind the lyrics have been unveiled.
The 31-year-old Little Mix singer released her third solo song on Friday (October 4) along with the accompanying music video.
In a release about the track, Perrie explains how the lyrics touch on the early days of her relationship with now fiance Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The lyrics tell the story of when they were first starting out and not yet “official,” when she was about to go away for months to tour in the US. While she was worried about putting pressure on a new relationship, Perrie told Alex they should pause their romance and go their separate ways.
“I told Alex, you go your way and I’ll go mine and if it’s meant to be we’ll find each other again when I am back,” she said. “He wasn’t happy [about] this idea and made our relationship official there and then! Fast forward 8 years and we are very happy, engaged and have our beautiful son. I truly believe if you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If not it was never meant to be.”
The track was first released as an underground club single by Joy Anonymous, who ended up playing it for Perrie in a writing session. She then fell in love with the track and started working on it with Joy, recorded vocals and enlisted Hudson Mohawke for final touches.
The music video was directed by Charlie Di Placido and filmed in just one take!
