NEW YORK (PIX11) – Nearly 70% of New York City residents think Mayor Eric Adams should resign following his corruption indictment, according to a poll from Marist College.
Another 63% of New Yorkers think Gov. Kathy Hochul should remove Adams from his position if he does not resign. Adams' approval rate stands at only 26%, the poll showed.
About two-thirds of residents also believe Adams did something illegal. Only 8% believe Adams didn't do anything wrong.
Most New Yorkers polled think Adams should not run for reelection in 2025.
"It’s hard to imagine how Mayor Adams could be faring any worse in the court of public opinion," said Dr. Lee Miringoff, the director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion. "Not only do New York City residents think he has done something illegal, but they think he should resign or have Governor Hochul start the process of removing him from office."
Federal prosecutors said on Wednesday that Adams could be charged with additional crimes.
