Peter Crouch and Joe Cole were both mightily impressed by Mikey Moore’s full Tottenham debut against Ferencvaros.
While it was not surprising to see Ange Postecoglou ring the changes for Thursday’s clash, the eleven that he did name got a lot of Spurs fans excited.
This was because the Australian had handed Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear their first starts, with many supporters getting their first proper glimpse at the pair.
Moore, in particular, came out of the game with flying colours, showing exactly why there is so much excitement about him at Hotspur Way.
The 17-year-old looked extremely calm and composed on the ball and went past players with ease time and again through the game.
While Crouch was not impressed with Tottenham’s defensive showing, he singled out Moore for praise following the North London side’s 2-1 win.
The former Spurs striker told TNT Sports (3/10/24 – 19:35): “I thought they were going to get away with not conceding again, but Varga put paid to that. All in all, they probably deserve it, but they just gave up too many chances.
“I thought Mikey Moore was excellent on his full debut. He had a hand in the first goal too.”
Joe Cole said: “(The first goal) was against the run of play. Moore was really good. He was comfortable on the ball, driving with it. They all did very well but he was the pick of the youngsters.”
Postecoglou will be extremely pleased with the fact that his side was able to get the job done in Hungary while also managing to keep many key players fresh for the clash against Brighton.
However, the thing that would have pleased him the most was seeing how Moore stood up and showed bravery on the ball in a tough away ground under difficult conditions.
The Tottenham boss labelled the teenager’s performance as ‘outstanding’ and suggested that this experience would help his confidence and his growth (Football.London).
