After being off the air since 2021, everyone was surprised to learn that When Hope Calls had been renewed for Season 2 and would return in early 2025.
We have gathered everything we know about the When Calls the Heart spinoff, including casting info, spoilers, and the release date.
Check it out below, and remember to bookmark this post since we’ll update it as more information comes in.
Yes, the was renewed in 2021 and then kicked off the season with a two-part holiday special, When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas.
Since then, the series has remained in limbo, and fans have wondered when it will return. So, Hopefuls were excited that Season 2 episodes were being filmed and that an air date was coming soon.
Great American Family sent a press release on September 19, and Bill Abbott, the company’s President and CEO, shared his thoughts.
“We were fortunate early on to understand that Janette Oke’s faith-filled characters had such rich origins that building entertainment universes from this world would present themselves over and over.”
When Hope Calls is a spinoff of the popular Hallmark Channel series When Calls the Heart.
The series focuses on the sisters Lillian (Morgan Kohan) and Grace (Jocelyn Hudon), who opened an orphanage in 1916 in Brookfield.
The sisters had only recently reunited themselves, and this was a way of giving other children a found family.
The two overcome the challenges of helping the children in the orphanage while balancing their happiness and romantic relationships.
They also live in a period of cattle ranchers and a new, growing town.
The sisters eventually find the family they have always wished for in this community and the children they care for.
Lillian and Grace first appeared in the 2018 When Calls The Heart holiday film The Greatest Christmas Blessing, along with Millie, one of the orphans.
So far, this spinoff has worked well with several When Calls the Heart favorites guest-starred in Season 1, including Lee and Rosemary Coulter when they contemplated adopting a child.
When Hope Calls Season 1 ended several years ago, we’ll refresh your memory on the key elements.
Lillian’s love triangle with Gabriel (Ryan-James Hatanaka) and Sam (Marshall Williams) intensified when she chose Gabriel.
Chuck (Greg Hovanessian) decided not to hide his feelings any longer and confessed his intentions to Grace, which only infuriated his mother, Tess.
The cliffhanger ended with Tess’s meddling and the inspector stating that if Grace gets any more strikes against her, the orphanage will have to close.
When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas clarified some loose ends. As mentioned, at the end of Season 1, Chuck declares his feelings for Grace, and they kiss.
In When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas, Lillian announces that Grace and Chuck married and moved to London.
That seemed sudden and unbelievable since the sisters were still reconnecting.
However, at the end of Season 1, Grace accompanied Helen to London and reunited her with her grandfather.
Grace and Chuck decided to stay there and open up another orphanage.
Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) also appeared, and it was delightful to see her as a loving mom to her teenage son, Cody.
The series teased the opening episodes to focus on the blossoming romance between Lillian and Gabriel.
We don’t know much else yet, except several new characters are joining the canvas, including a new Constable, Mountie Michael, played by Christopher Russell.
When Hope Calls Season 2 will feature eight episodes, two less than Season 1.
It’s possible they ordered ten, and they counted the holiday special as two episodes, but we’re only getting eight more episodes.
We’ve gathered Intel on When Hope Calls Season 2 cast.
We don’t expect Grace (Jocelyn Hudon) or Chuck (Greg Hovanessian) to appear.
Hudon was upped to a series regular on Chicago Fire, and Greg Hovanessian stars on FBI International.
There has been no word on if Lori Loughlin will re-appear as Abigail.
Sam (Marshall Williams) and Ronnie (Neil Crone) are also missing from the upcoming cast list.
Here is who we can expect to see in Season 2:
Several other actors have joined the cast of When Hope Calls.
Christopher Russell will play Mountie Michael, and Cindy Busby will play Nora.
Nick Bateman has also joined the cast as Wyatt. We don’t know much about his character yet.
Trevor Donovan has signed on for at least a two-episode arc, beginning with the third episode of Season 2.
He plays Constable Jim Reynolds, a strong and experienced Mountie.
Donovan’s role could be extended on When Hope Calls or in another spinoff, and we really hope that happens.
Since production just began, there is no trailer for When Hope Calls Season 2 yet. As soon as we find one, we’ll add it here.
Since When Hope Calls switched networks from Hallmark Movies Now to Great American Family, Seasons 1 and 2 will stream on different networks.
When Hope Calls Season 1 streams in its entirety on Hallmark +.
When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas streams on Freevee.
When Hope Calls Season 2 will air on Great American Family and stream on Pure Flix.
When Hope Calls Season 2 is currently in production. The series aims to premiere in January of 2025.
That will be a nice treat since When Calls the Heart Season 12 probably won’t premiere until spring, and many fans enjoy both shows.
