Flow, C&W Business donate $30,000 to support breast cancer awareness

C&W Communications, the parent company of Flow and C&W Business, has strengthened its commitment to the fight against breast cancer by contributing $30,000 to the CIBC ‘Walk for the Cure’ in Barbados.

This donation comes in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed annually in October.

This year’s walk, scheduled for Sunday, October 6, is expected to draw thousands of Barbadians who will flood Warrens and surrounding areas in a ‘sea of pink,’ showing solidarity with those impacted by breast cancer.

The event is part of the Caribbean’s largest annual fundraising initiative for breast cancer awareness, bringing communities together to support survivors and remember those lost to the disease.

Speaking on behalf of Flow, Country Manager Desron Bynoe highlighted the importance of community efforts in the ongoing battle against breast cancer. “Together, we walk to honour the courage of survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and work towards a future without breast cancer. Every step we take as a community brings us closer to a cure,” he said.

“As the country’s leading telecom provider, we are driven by a mission to connect communities and change lives, and through our longstanding partnership with CIBC and the Walk for the Cure, we are proud to make good on that promise,” Bynoe added.

The donation was formally presented by Bynoe to Donna Wellington, Managing Director for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean at CIBC, and Samantha Suttle, CIBC Walk for the Cure Manager (Barbados).

This contribution is part of a broader commitment across the Caribbean, with C&W Communications supporting similar initiatives in other markets where CIBC and C&W have a presence.

“We deeply commend the outstanding work of the Barbados Cancer Society’s Breast Screening Programme. Their dedication to early detection and lifesaving screenings has made an incredible impact in our community. By empowering individuals through awareness and offering critical support, they are truly making a difference in the fight against breast cancer, and we are honoured to stand beside them in this vital cause,” added Bynoe.

This year’s walk will start at CIBC’s Regional Head Office in Warrens and proceed towards the D’Arcy Scott Roundabout. The route will continue onto the Gordon Cummins section of the ABC Highway, reaching the Hinds Hill traffic lights, before turning right onto Husbands Main Road. Walkers will then make their way to Queen’s College and head back through Warrens, finishing at Massy Stores car park.

Wellington expressed her gratitude for the ongoing partnership with C&W Communications. “We are incredibly grateful for the partnership with C&W Communications, and it is that spirit of collaboration and community that gives us strength. We thank them for walking alongside us over the years in this important cause.”

She further emphasised the significance of the event, noting that it has grown to become one of the Caribbean’s largest cancer fundraising and awareness activities. “Walk for the Cure attracts tens of thousands of participants from The Bahamas in the north to Trinidad in the south, and the funds raised are life-changing for those in need,” Wellington said.
