BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) — On Tuesday, the Bastrop Independent School District held a groundbreaking ceremony for its ninth elementary school, which is set to open in August 2025.
According to the district, the new 105,000-square-foot facility is set to be built near the Adelton subdivision.
“This is not just the construction of a building,” said School Board Vice President, Chris Dillon. “It’s the creation of a space where young minds will grow, friendships will form, and futures will be shaped.”
Funding for the campus was courtesy of the district’s latest bond, which was approved in May 2023.
The bond is also expected to fund another elementary school, renovations and expansions at multiple campuses, a multipurpose facility and other district upgrades.
“This marks the third new campus we’ve opened in just the past three years,” said Superintendent Barry Edwards. “Before 2022, it had been over a decade since we opened a new school in BISD—Cedar Creek High School back in 2009.”
Bastrop ISD said it was accepting nominations to name Elementary #9. Nominations close Oct. 11.
