“Nice pop!” “Hey, wrong bench!”
Here’s the latest episode of Duke Blue Planet which focuses on the first week of practice.
There’s a nice shot of the new scoreboard to start things out, then soon, Khaman Maluach dunking over Justin Robinson.
There’s a nice continuity between the Scheyer era and the Krzyzewki era as Jon Scheyer repeatedly exhorts his team to talk constantly. That was a big focus of Coach K’s, who often said he coached three systems: offense, defense and communication (i.e., talking). Tyrese Proctor seems to have taken this part to heart.
There's a section with academics and how that’s managed. Obviously they travel a lot and have major commitments with practice and other responsibilities. It’s not easy to keep up.
There’s also a section about nutrition, which is another revolution in sports. When you look at video from the ‘60s, guys are drinking soft drinks and smoking cigarettes in locker rooms or on the sidelines at times in football.
There’s been a revolution in training too and we get a hint of that as well.
The tools that college basketball teams have now are incredible. Bill Foster, Coach K’s predecessor from 1974-1980, would be stunned by the tools that are available now.
