Morning N&N for October 2
ALDS, Guardians vs. Astros or Tigers
— Zack Meisel (@ZackMeisel) October 2, 2024
Game 1 in CLE on Saturday: 1:08pm ET on TBS/Max
Game 2 in CLE on Monday: 4:08pm ET on TBS/Max/TruTV
Tigers 3, Astros 1
In the second inning, the Tigers scored 3 runs to take a 3-0 lead. This is the only inning they scored in, but with Tarik Skubal on the mound, that was enough. This was a pretty typical Detroit game except they scored 3 runs, not 2 or 1. With the help of some substantial BABIP luck, they held onto the lead in the 9th when Houston was squaring up Sean Foley and Beau Brieske.
Royals 1, Orioles 0
This one was a bigger surprise. Holding Baltimore to 0 runs? Especially with 3 innings of work from that bullpen?
Corbin Burnes dominated the Royals, but made the mistake of giving up a single run.
Mets 8, Brewers 4
This looked like it was going to be another typical back-and-forth Mets game. Down 2-0; up 3-2; down 4-3. But scoring 5 in the 5th put an end to that. They did not homer. Nor did the Brewers.
Aaron Civale pitched 3 hitless innings. I enjoyed that.
Padres 4, Braves 0
Michael King dominated Atlanta, and that’s what everyone should talk about today. An absolutely spectacular performance in which he struck out 12 in 7 innings.
Fernando Tatis provided all the offense King needed when he leaned into a first inning homerunpitch and sent it to the moon.
In other news, we have guesses for 2025 arb salaries, and the owner of the Diamondbacks saying he should not have given any money to Jordan Montgomery.
